<description>Date: Tuesday 17 June 2008........Presented by Mike Taulty. Silverlight is Microsoft's new cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering rich media experiences and interactive applications for the Web. Silverlight provides a highly productive platform for designers and developers to collaborate in building a new generation of web experiences enabling you to build visually stunning interactive content and applications that run on multiple browsers and operating systems. Invite us for a spin around the XAML Canvas to experience the capabilities of the Silverlight platform. We'll take an in depth look at what Silverlight is and how we can make use of it in web applications. We'll look at both the 1.0 and 1.1 versions of the technology and probe into the programming model and tools you'll need to build compelling Silverlight applications. We'll also look at some related topics such as calling back-end services and asynchronous content download.

Mike Taulty works in the Developer and Platform Group at Microsoft in the UK where he has spent the past few years helping developers understand and get the best from the Microsoft platform. Prior to this, Mike spent 3 years with Microsoft Consulting Services as a consultant on developer technologies.

<description>Date: Thursday 24 July 2008........It is reckoned that 80-90% of data has a spatial component to it. But what do we do with it now? At best, we constrain it to postcodes. Well, that would be great if we were delivering letters, but the majority of us aren’t. In this session we look at Spatial Queries in SQL Server to see how it works and what can be done with it.

Here's what Gary Short said about the session when he saw it: -

&quot;Colin MacKay's Spatial Data talk last night really rocked! If you get the chance to see it you should.&quot;

Colin Angus Mackay is a software developer specialising in Microsoft technologies located in Glasgow, Scotland. He is a Member of the Institution of Analysts and Programmers, Member of the British Computer Society, a Microsoft MVP (C#), a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer, a Core Member of Scottish Developers, Code Project MVP for four years running and while not involved in software related pursuits is an amateur photographer, cyclist, map maker and is also the Vice President of Education for South Side Speakers, the Glasgow South Side Branch of Toastmasters International.
